D2N2 is home to some of the largest life science businesses such as Alliance Boots and Pennine Healthcare. As well as these large businesses we are home to significant business incubators such as Medicity and Biocity.

Biocity is the largest collective space for bioscience firms with laboratory space for businesses to work in to develop their product, research and further their business in a productive environment. Biocity has also recently been granted £6.5M from D2N2, towards their £30M expansion project which is due to open in spring 2017and create 700 jobs over the next 30 years.

Boots UK headquarters are based on the Nottingham Enterprise Zone, Boots site, in Nottingham. Manufacturing pharmaceutical products in the historic roots of the business which employs a significant number of staff on (c.11,000 staff[1]) site. It is a nationally significant sector and provides an opportunity for niche producers and university spin-outs.

The manufacture of medical and wearable devices, whilst a relatively small sub-sector, is a particularly high value sub-sector of manufacturing with a high level of R&D activities.
